Kanpur Municipal Corporation is a municipal corporation in the city of Kanpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The corporation covers an area of 403 square kilometers and is divided into 110 wards.
The municipality in Kanpur, then known as Cawnpore, was first established on November 22, 1861, under the chairmanship of a district magistrate. Lala Shiv Prasad was the first Vice Chairman of the Kanpur Municipal Committee. The Town Hall building in Cooperganj was constructed in 1879 with an investment of approximately Rs. 2,16,000.
The first drainage system in Kanpur was established in 1872, and the first protected water supply was provided in 1892. The city became a municipal corporation in 1959, with Ram Ratan Gupta serving as the first Mayor of Kanpur.

The geographical area is divided into electoral wards. Each ward elects a representative who addresses the issues of their ward by informing the body to resolve them. Other members who govern the body include MLAs, MPs, the Municipal Commissioner, and the District Magistrate.
Elections for the governing body are conducted by the State Election Commission. Any person over the age of 18 is eligible to vote in the body's elections.
The governing body operates within the constitutional framework and the rules set by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
